Data Download

As species, habitat, and human footprint data accumulate, the ABMI is continually adding new ways of visualizing and interpreting data. The Data Download section provides easy access to the ABMI’s data and innovative data products ranging from raw field data, to species habitat associations, to remote sensing and geospatial products, to animal camera trap data, and more.

Species & Habitat Raw Data

The ABMI collects species and habitat data at terrestrial and wetland sites across Alberta. Access and download these data using the Species & Habitat Raw Data Download interface.

Human Footprint Products

The ABMI provides a comprehensive representation of human footprint, vegetation classes, and other land cover features in a GIS format. Access province-wide and sample-based inventories of human footprint and land cover here.

Lidar Products

Lidar data products are available from specific areas of interest where the ABMI has collected lidar data. These products are derived from high-resolution lidar data collected through aerial surveys.

Advanced Landcover Prediction & Habitat Assessment (ALPHA) Products

The ABMI's ALPHA program uses Earth observation data and spatial data science to map and monitor Alberta's natural landscape. Products in the ALPHA program include wetland data, and hydroperiod data.

Other Geospatial Land Surface Data

The ABMI’s Geospatial land surface data are vital to understanding relationships between human land use, habitat and species abundance. These data are used to support policy development, regional planning, and cumulative effects management decisions.

GIS Data: Biodiversity

GIS Biodiversity Data include biodiversity metrics that provide information on the health of biodiversity, species richness, and composition, as well as province-wide species distribution maps.

Species-level Data Sets

Access ABMI statistical model results associated with the analysis of species-level responses to habitat types (e.g. deciduous forest, young harvested spruce stands) and land use activities (e.g. agriculture, energy development) in Alberta's forested region and prairie region.

Remote Camera Mammal Data

The ABMI collects data on mid- to large-sized mammals using remote cameras deployed at terrestrial and wetland sites across Alberta. Access and download these data for the province, by Natural Region or by Land-use Framework planning region here.

Rare Species Data

Explore data sets that have been collected beyond the ABMI’s systematic sampling, such as rare species data collected in northeastern Alberta.

Data Archive

An archive of data products that have been phased out of production however, we are still providing access. These include Land Cover, Native Vegetation Edge, Native Vegetation Mesh Size, and Topographic Variables.
