About ABMI Data

The ABMI collects data on species, habitat, and human footprint in Alberta, and analyses this information to produce data and mapping products related to biodiversity. The ABMI provides access to this high-quality information about Alberta’s biodiversity through this data portal.

Survey Site Locations

The ABMI monitors biodiversity by sampling 1656 permanent sites distributed in a 20 km systematic grid across Alberta.

Survey Methodology

At each site, the ABMI monitors three indicators of biodiversity: species, habitat, and human footprint.

Models and Indices

In addition to its core monitoring activities, the ABMI produces empirical models of the relationship of species to habitat, disturbance, or other environmental variables, plus indices of the status of biodiversity.
