The Impacts of Climate Change on Alberta’s Biodiversity
DATE:June 16, 2015
TIME:08:00 AM -
02:00 PM
LOCATION: Lister Conference Centre (Prairie Room), University of Alberta
The ABMI is completing a 3-year collaborative project that has examined the potential impacts of climate change on Alberta’s biodiversity and developed knowledge and tools to support the management of Alberta’s biodiversity in a changing climate.
We invite you to attend an engaging morning of short presentations showcasing our research and highlighting applications to biodiversity management in Alberta. The presentations will be followed by a reception lunch to provide an opportunity for conversation and discussion.
Free online registration is kindly requested by June 10th, 2015.
Confirmed presentations include:
- A climate change vulnerability assessment of Alberta’s native species
- Climate change and Alberta’s ecosystems
- Predicting invasive plant species responses to climate change
- Adaptation strategies for the Burrowing Owl and Ferruginous Hawk in an increasingly extreme future
- Mitigating the impacts of climate change on rare plants through assisted migration
- Adapt-action: An online tool to help Alberta municipalities better adapt to climate change
- Conservation of future boreal forest bird communities considering lags in vegetation response to climate change
- Alberta's rare plants and butterflies: predicted impacts of climate change on habitat suitability
- Climate change adaptation measures for biodiversity
Who should attend? Government of Alberta scientists, planners, and policy developers, and researchers from universities or non-governmental organizations interested in understanding the potential impacts of climate change on Alberta's biodiversity and land-use and identifying adaptive responses. We will also be showcasing a new climate change adaptation resource for municipalities. We welcome additional guests - please forward this invitation to others who may be interested.
Event details: The event will be hosted at the Lister Conference Centre (Prairie Room) at the University of Alberta. The program will run from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM, followed by a reception lunch (12:30 – 2:00PM). A registration table for check-in will open at 8:00 AM.
